PHANEROO~DEVOTION 28th November 2015 DIVINE PURPOSE Apostle Grace Lubega

[Acts 11:26]; And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church  and taught much people and the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

The scriptures speak of a place called Antioch where it is said there was much teaching; where men were first defined as Christians. The bible goes on to say, "now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. A s they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.”

The message vesrion calls them prophet-teachers. That kind of prophet-teacher is working in aligning Paul for the gospel where God is sending him. But, then comes another Prophet, Agabus. We are told that he prophesied a dearth and it came to pass (and everybody knew that he was deep). Later, the Bible says of him that "when he was come unto us, he took Paul's girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles. And when we heard these things, both we, and they of that place, besought him not to go up to Jerusalem. Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.”

Even though Agabus sees Paul bound, he doesn’t see the divine assignment on Paul’s life. Paul was commissioned in Acts 13:2 by prophet-teachers to go where Agabus didn’t want him to go because he saw imprisonment. Both are prophets but one is contradicting the apostle. One sees that Paul was called to be an Apostle to the Gentiles and separates him to go and while he is going, another prophet comes to tell him that he is going to be arrested.

Paul tells Agabus that it is a very small thing. I believe Paul was thinking of the words which were spoken as the prophet-teachers laid hands on them, the same words he can tell Timothy; “this charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare."

There are words that can make Paul stand, not because of much prayer, but because they are prophetic words spoken to him in Acts 13 that disqualify and disannul any ability of Agabus to minister to him. When Paul is in that dispensation, he will be hungry, not because Agabus doesn’t exist, but he wants something deeper than Agabus. You can beat him up, consider him dead, draw him out of the city but the next morning he is up. He went to Derbe to preach the same gospel that got him beat up because imprisonment is an understatement compared to the purpose of God upon Paul’s life.

I wish Agabus had seen this. He wouldn’t have prophesied as he had. But how do we change that Agabus? Just because you had seen a dearth which came to pass! Sadly, there is still a man who wants to hear Agabus prophesying famine.

You see, the church has grown up. People don’t want to hear prophets who speak of only houses and cars. We want things money cannot buy. I want to know what God called me to do, the divine purpose of God upon my life. I want to walk in the fullness of God. I want somebody who can come and speak in my life the things that are so old because those things will tag me to why God had to call me before I was formed in my mother’s womb. There is something much bigger than the cars we will drive, the houses we will build and the children we will produce. That thing is called the divine purpose of God upon our lives.
